Hello and welcome back to Life Long Fitness, where we help you navigate your forties and beyond.

I don’t want to be like that, I want energy. I want to be stable. I don't want to keep falling over. I want to be able to run after to my grandchildren.

So it's often said that we look to our parents for a barometer of how we are going to be when we are older. So we look to our parents to see how they are. Are they fit, are they healthy or are they struggling. And we assume that that's going to be us when we're the same age.

Now, quite a lot of our clients and us want to defy this. We don't want to necessarily have the same aliments, problems that our parents have or had. And Lena was exactly the same. She retired. She had been working in banking for years and whilst also being a mother and seeing her mum's stability and declining mobility, inspired Lena, to think that I don't want to be like that.

I don't want to end up how my mother is, unfortunately at that time of her life. So she wanted to start making the steps to lead a healthier life and to become a better, not a better a healthier version of herself. She wants more energy to be able to run around with the grandchildren. And you hear that a lot, because being able to play with your grandchildren is such a joy, we're told.

But a lot of people don't think that they should be able to do that. They think that because I'm getting older, I'm going to be less able I'm not able to run around, I'm not able to bend, I'm not able to do these things. But our clients are defying that because they're getting healthier, fitter, stronger in their later years, 50 years plus our average age is 55, but we've got plans all the way to 87 and they're just getting stronger and fitter to be able to live their life better.

So when Lena was looking at what she could do, she looks at normal gyms like most of us probably would, but she found them soulless. So when she found DVCC, she was thrilled. And to find and to join a community of like minded people. I sing, well I try... and look after my mom, but I'm elsewhere. I retired three, two and a half years ago because of Mum and I thought, well, hubby is retired, go into things.

I needed something for me, I needed something for me. So yeah. Then I found this and it was a bit shall I, shan’t I? Shall I? Shan’t I? thought, oh I’ll give it a go. To see him the way my mum is at the moment, her stability is she's virtually immobile. I thought, I don't want to be like that. I want be like that, I want energy, I want to be stable.

I don't want to keep falling over. I want to be able to run after my grandchildren. When you take health for granted when you're young, don’t you! But I just feel better for doing that because it has been so, so much. Stop start. When I leave here, I think, Oh, I’m really glad it did that, the team is fantastic they really are.

And also, you know, the others that that are members of the gym, and everyone is so encouraging. Come on. You know, you can do this, go on. You can, just one more, you know, everyone is so encouraged and supportive. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, that's right. I've tried the every day, generic gym but they’re just soulless aren’t they. You turn up, you get on the machine, you go home.

And so what that's for me has solidified is once you find your why, it becomes a lot easier. Once you've found a reason that you want to get fitter, lose weight, whatever it might be, and the why, then you'll find it easier to fit it into your life becomes because it becomes more of a driving force for what you're trying to achieve and what you want to be.

To be honest, a lot of people say that and they don't want their age to define them. They don't want to be 70 and not able to run around with grandchildren, I’ll say it again... But go up the stairs and do all these different things. They don't want that age to define them. They don't want to be deprived of the joys of those things.

And so once you find that why, and it's individual to each one of us, then you'll find that achieving it will just become that little bit easier

once you've found your way, you will just find that everything else seems to fit into you achieving that, why.

Do you feel intimidated by normal gyms?

The big box impersonal gyms leave you feeling awkward, and lacking motivation to lose weight and get fit.

The Training Gyms is for men and women who want to lose weight, get fit but don't want to do it in a normal big box gym.

We know it's important. We just don't know where to start.
