“This time last year, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer”

At the start of the year, Ben Sheard was given a slim chance of survival…

After an incredible journey though, facing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and even a hip replacement, Ben managed to beat his cancer and wanted to get his life back on track.

When first coming to The DVCC, even walking down the stairs was a bonus for Ben. However, that wasn’t enough for him. After rebuilding his energy levels with every session, Ben’s strength has continued to grow and grow to the point where he is now lifting weights, building muscle and has found himself in the best shape of his entire life.

Ben is a real inspiration at The DVCC and has proved that despite all odds, it is never too late to turn things around.

“At the start of the year, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.

Ben Sheard, I've been coming training now for 8 months.

I could do 2 minutes on an exercise bike before I fell off and just collapsed on the floor. Well Christmas, I had Christmas dinner fed to me through a tube.

Since then, number of operations, getting various lumps and bumps removed. A hip replacement and I was at the point where I just wanted to do something.

I've lost about 7 stone and am the fittest I've ever been. Having just done chemo and radiotherapy, getting down stairs was a bonus for me. Now, I'm walking, I'll go out walking the dogs and I'll be out for 3 or 4 hours. The dogs are tired before I am.

The DVCC helps you find the best you. It doesn't matter where your level is, you are going to come out being better than when you went in. There is no other way to describe that.”
