The Purpose of Exercise (in the beginning)

Your goal when beginning exercise is NOT weight loss...

nor is it muscle gain!

It is in fact... to continue to be able to exercise.

Let us explain!

Whatever the goal you have in your might is, you achieve it by being consistent. You remain consistent by minimising the bumps in the road that often knock you off the wagon. Falling off the wagon is the no.1 reason you will not reach your goal. Not that you had an extra glass of wine or didn't push yourself hard enough in the gym.

So, what does this look like for the majority? Avoiding injury... and looking after the ones you have already. Think about it, achieving your goal requires consistency but it’s really hard to be consistent if you’re always injured.

Put simply...

If you can:

πŸ‘‰ Take it slow

πŸ‘‰ Avoid injury

πŸ‘‰ Build the habit of exercising

You WILL:

πŸ‘‰ Drop a dress size

πŸ‘‰ Put on X amount of muscle

πŸ‘‰ Get comments from friends on how great you look

πŸ‘‰ See the results you want

It's as close to a sure thing as you'll get when it comes to health and fitness. But only if you can stay on the wagon for long enough to see the results. The best thing you can do for yourself as a beginner is to find a group, gym, community, friend and do it together. Preferably someone that knows more than you do and is likely to incentivise you to exercise, not be the first to suggest missing it the gym on a Saturday.

The best you can do is a Personal Trainer, of course. Hiring one will undoubtedly catalyse your results but they aren't a necessity. The important part here is safety and ensuring you can continue to build your habit of exercising above all else.
