Why Heart Rate Based Personal Training Increases Your Results

Written by Mark Gray | 02/04/15 05:00

Heart rate based training has been around for some time. But has only recently come under the spot light and is being used by top level athletes.

Many of you reading this may have been on a cross trainer or treadmill with a heart rate monitor on. These can be quite inaccurate.

I remember warming up on a treadmill a few years back and within 30 seconds of getting onto the treadmill it was displaying a warning sign that my heart rate was dangerously high (although I did very little cardio work at this point it was highly unlikely for my heart rate to get that high at the intensity I was working at) I have never been back on a treadmill since!Interval training which has been shown to be very beneficial for fat loss and is designed to increase your heart rate for a short period and then let your heart rate recover.

When you do a set of intervals for timed periods it can be easy to under/over rest and this can have negative effects on the results of the exercise. When you are monitoring your performance with a heart rate monitor you are leaving nothing to chance and it will undoubtedly help your improve your results.

The same can be applied with resistance training and if you are training for fat loss and muscle tone gain specifically one of your main goals should be to create a lactic acid build up.

This is done by working out at the correct intensity, using an appropriate weight and exercise program. You then want to rest for a period of time to let your body clear the lactic acid (but not fully).

This can all be monitored with a heart rate monitor. So when you reach a certain heart rate you then rest and recover until your heart rate has dropped to a lower level and then begin exercising again. This makes your program much more personal and therefore more likely to produce results.

All DVCC centres are fitted with state of the art heart rate monitor systems which monitor your heart rate performance over the duration of a Modified Lactic Training Session (MLT).

The DVCC was the first in the UK industry to go down the path of heart rate based personal training.

Everybody will have different levels of fitness and therefore require different work and rest periods. The Heart Rate equipment allows the DVCC Transformation Expert to make your training session as effective and as safe as possible.

The work and rest times can be tailored to your heart rate allowing adequate rest for optimal performance.

The heart rate monitors are strapped around the chest and can also be used on many mobile devices.

While clients are exercising those wearing heart rate monitors have their statistics displayed on a screen for the Transformation Expert to observe. The statistics are all recorded and stored so they can be compared from session to session.

Some statistics that are measured are: current heart rate, average heart rate, maximal heart rate, time of exercise and calories burnt.

Many of the DVCC clients who use the heart rate monitors during their MLT sessions say that it has taken their training to a new level.

It can be very encouraging to see your heart rate rising on the screen and helps a lot of our clients to push themselves that little bit harder every repetition, set and session.
