How Dave Has Managed To Change His Life!

“I work odd shifts, 4 on 4 off, so I don’t really have a weekend. I was very much the same as most people - Thinking “Oh, I must do something” but you never do…

…I’ve got diabetes. I’ve had it for 12-15 years but never really took it seriously. I have an assessment every year and over the past few years it has been slowly getting worse.

Last year was a real wake up call. The doctor said that if things haven’t improved by this year - I could be looking at insulin.

You really don’t want to be in that position…So I started a trial at The DVCC.

I started coming here in August, and had my annual assessment coming up in September. I remember thinking - if he didn’t like it last year, definitely not going to like this year!

But sure enough, I went for my medical and the doctor said: “Two words David. Bloody amazing! What happened?!”

I said I’ve changed my lifestyle. I go to the gym two or three times a week, and I’ve started doing so much other stuff. I’ve learned to swim properly - I’m up to a mile now and I walk a lot now, I’ve just walked from Northampton to Wellingborough (12+ Miles!).

It just makes you think, you can cheat at cards, you can cheat at a lot of things, but you can’t cheat yourself! That’s why I need that accountability!”
